Breast Lift Surgery

Why would anybody consider breast lift surgery at all?

Remember the time when you stood in front of the mirror

1. Admiring your beautiful, youthful, attractive appearance

2. Seeing those firm, nicely shaped, breasts eager to share their beauty? For some women, this becomes somewhat of a lost dream.

The reasons why you think about having a breast lift can be manifold:

1. Breast cancer patients may wish to optimize their breast reconstruction results

2. Mothers may be looking to regain the shape or firmness of their body after pregnancy or breastfeeding

3. It might be a combination of factors like natural changes in breasts that come from age, are caused by hereditary factors and/or weight fluctuations.

4. Stress caused by job and/or relationship issues might have worn you out and your body reflects that

5. You miss that glowing youthful you and you want to restore it to boost your self-esteem

You will be a good candidate for a breast lift when you meet all or any of the following criteria:

1. You are physically healthy

2. You have realistic expectations

3. Your breasts are fully developed

4. Your breasts are sagging and have lost their shape and firmness

5. Your breasts have a flatter, elongated shape or are pendulous

6. When unsupported, your nipples fall below the breast crease

7. Your nipples and areolas point downward

8. You have stretched skin and enlarged areolas

9. One breast is lower than the other

Remember that the shape and size of your breasts before surgery will influence the surgical procedure and the outcome.

What exactly is breast lift surgery?

Breast lift surgery – also known as mastopexy – is a procedure that raises and firms the breasts. It does so by removing excess skin to tighten the surrounding tissue and to reshape and support the new breast contour. The internal breast tissue is usually reshaped as well. It can also reduce the size of enlarged areolas during the procedure.

The common 4 incision lines to perform a breast lift are pictured on the right-hand side. Depending on your individual physical parameters, breast shape, and state will choose the one that will best suit your needs and which will promise the least visible scarring for your case.

What breast lift surgery fails to achieve:

1. A breast lift will fail to enlarge your breasts. If you want to increase the size of your breasts then you need breast augmentation surgery

2. Breast lift surgery will fail to round out the upper part of your breast. If you want your breasts to look fuller you need to have breast augmentation surgery

3. Breast lift surgery will fail to reduce the size of your breasts – if this is your desire you want to choose breast reduction surgery

Is there anything I need to consider before having breast lift surgery?

Surgeons generally recommend waiting until breast development, childbirth and breastfeeding have stopped before undertaking breast lift surgery

Although breasts of any size can be lifted, the results may not be as long-lasting in women with heavier breasts.

Will I have scarring?

Scars are an inevitable part of any invasive surgery. will endeavor to minimize scarring and to keep your scars as inconspicuous as possible by locating the incisions in easily hidden sites. That way, scars will be along natural skin lines and creases. Scars may fade with time and become barely noticeable. If you are prone to scarring, be sure to tell about this circumstance.
